I really don't know exactly what trail I did. I believe, based on the signs, it was part of the Shantz Trail. No matter. Accessed from Broadway at the entrance gate and headed south. Began at sundown, around 1810 hours, and finished off in the dark under a full moon around 1920 hours. Perfect temps, hiked alone. Nice sunset and the full moon later allowed for some walking with the headlamp off. Saw a jackrabbit, heard two packs of coyotes and the desert smelled like a florist! Took lots of pics. Hiked in, then turned around and retraced steps back to parking area.

Easy hike with the hubby and kid. Did a small scavenger hunt for her as well. Not much to see and it was HOT for thanksgiving.

After 2 years of living in Oregon we've moved back to the Southwest and have taken our first hike! What can I say about the Mica trail that hasn't been said already. It's a nice easy trail, lot's of nice views, we saw a jackrabbit, a kangaroo rat, quails, a roadrunner, and various lizards and a rattlesnake. It's nice to be hiking in AZ again.

Great little hike through the desert with a lot of breathtaking scenery. The trail is good for dogs of all types (it may be a little bit long for the little ones though).

Took a stroll along the Mica View trail from the southern trailhead while waiting for my car to get done. Weather was perfect! Saw a B-1 bomber flying low and slow over the park too, probably heading back to Holloman AFB in New Mexico from DMAFB. This was a pretty easy hike. Mica View section of the trail had no one on it, while the Cactus Forest section I saw a few folks, all headed in the direction of the Broadway trailhead. And one mule. The barrel cacti were fruiting, and there were a lot of small, scattered flowers out, along with a few large swaths of golden flowers (I don't know what type) further off the trail and on some hillsides, as well as at the Visitor's Center.
