The trail is basically a moguls route through the sandstone boulders of the Utah desert. While I had a pretty good idea of why white knuckled mountain bikers have developed their rep over the years, this route sealed the deal for me:). The entire trail is striped white to offer a very clear directional path, but that doesn't mean that more than a few times upon seeing the arrows I thought to myself, you've gotta be sh***ing me! Some of the incline and declines were very sharp without relief, and crashing on slickrock doesn't feel that great. There were a couple times I had to hike a bike up some of the sharper inclines, and swallow my guts on the way back down
Given the terrain, it's a time consuming ride, and keeping an eye on my watch I ran out of time early on and had to head back to catch my ride. I was the only mtber in my group, and convinced my wife and friend that they should go grocery shopping and fill up gas while I go for a ride, he he he he (I'd driven the last ~800 miles so I figured fair). Turns out the joke was partially on me as we embarked on our hike later in the day at which point I then realized how much this ride totally drained me. Hope I get a chance for redemption to slay the dragon... |
