First time hiking in Colorado. This was the first hike of a five day hike trip in the Breckenridge area. Got off the plane in Denver, picked up a rental, and decided to get the legs warmed up on this one. This area is very easy to access and there are a lot of trails/destinations in the immediate area. The trailhead for Sniktau is also the starting point for Cupid peak. Marmots were everywhere. Every once in a while you would hear them yell (sounds like a high pitched chirp almost) and then bound off in a seemingly random direction.

This mountain is located just south of the 70 and offers fantastic views for little effort. To the north you can see Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness, Vasquez Peak Wilderness, and James Peak Protection Area. To the south you are looking directly at Torreys Peak.

James Peak Protection Area was up next.

I moved to Denver in May of 04, got married in July, went on a honeymoon in the San Juan Mtns, then went to Georgia to see my sister get married. September came, and it was time to start enjoying the Front Range. A few weeks after breaking my little toe (again) My wife, Leah, and I decided to drive over Loveland pass. We made it to the top of the pass, my toe was not hurting to much and I really needed another peak to be on. So we decided to hike Sniktau instead of continuing down the other side of the pass. This was Leah's first 13er and my first peak I hiked in the Front Range.
