| partners | | After checking in to the motel and eating an early dinner, the kids and I checked out the nearly Spattercone trail. It's a less than two mile, easy loop through a nice concentration of volcanic features. There's a pamphlet you can pick up at the trailhead and follow in conjenction with the numbered stops along the trail.
We got started late afternoon to temps still in the 90s, and my whinier child immediately accused me of child abuse. Luckily, the trail held enough interest to make the kids quickly forget the heat. We followed the loop clockwise, plus made a few off trail explorations when we saw anything that looked interesting.
We saw no other people out on this trail, and I ended up being pleasantly surprised with what it had to offer--definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. |
