| partners | | After breaking camp at Vallecito Sunday morning, Elizabeth and I headed down the highway a few miles to Agua Caliente County Park. She wanted to check out the park for future camping/swimming opportunities and I wanted to do the short hike to the pond, that I didn't do two weeks earlier while camping there.
The hike departs from near the park entrance station and climbs west before dropping down into Squaw Wash. There is no sign at that point, but you turn left and head upstream to get to the spring/oasis area known as the pond. On our way back we missed the cairned turnoff to get back to the trailhead and hiked a ways down canyon before we figured it out. No problem, just a short backtrack and we were good. That is why my mileage is higher than the posted gps track (I cleaned up the track to remove the missed turn portion).
Back at the vehicles we said our goodbyes and went our separate ways, thus ending a fun weekend of camping and exploring in the Southern California desert. |
