| no partners | | I had the opportunity to go to Denver for a day and half for work. In between meetings I found some time to explore the area. I had hoped to find a glacial alpine lake that was accessible this time of year. St. Mary's Lake and glacier fit my needs perfectly. The parking area is on private land and costs $5. From there it's 3/4 mile to the lake. Soon after the official trailhead, you cross over into Forest Service land. Being a Monday evening at 6:45pm, there was no one around (although I know this place gets busy on weekends due its ease of access). I wandered around the shore and then just sat down for awhile and took in the views.
I highly recommend visiting this area. There are multiple trails that depart from the lake (e.g., the actual glacier climb, and an alt route to James Peak). |
