| partners | | exited via the south entrance, making a visit to mariposa grove on the way out
shuttles start running at 8:00; we got there at 7:55 and were able to drive in and park
hiked as much of the trail system as we could, saw almost all of the named trees and the cabin
walked up the road to wawona point
there are hundreds of sequoias in the grove and they are impressive
i found the lighting and contrast a challenge, and wasn't very happy with my photos
posting a few anyway for memories and documentation
a worthy stop and a good exit hike
random thoughts on the trip:
i love the sierras and have been fortunate to be in on these trips with the boys
it's a long drive but i'd like to go back for a few things on my wish list
thanks to denny and john for doing the driving
weather was great - clear skies and cool temps
camping at a moderate elevation was nice (crane flat is about 6,000 feet)
last year we cherry-picked the more epic hikes and got a couple of peaks
this year we selected scenic hikes featured in denny's book and were very happy with our choices
my top three would be ten lakes, north dome and cathedral lakes
good times with good company - thanks guys!
p.s. highly recommend jenny's mexican grill in barstow and the taqueria in selma yum!
