Last stop on our round of picture-taking hikes. Sure was sick of driving by this point :out:

Mostly, we looked at the plants and water, but a few quail were out and about to liven the mood. Not what I would want to do every weekend, but not a bad way to spend a Sunday.

Went for a quick hike around the Clark County Wetlands Park today. Distance is a rough estimate. Willows were dropping seed, creating drifts along the pathways. The mesquite and acacia were flowering so heavily the smell almost took your breath away. Enjoyed watching a raccoon, not a normal animal for us. Also, a nice family of quail. :D

There is a web of paved, gravel, and dirt paths around the park itself. Also connects to the River Mountain Loop and an unpaved trail which stretches the length of the Las Vegas Wash. Interesting place with plenty of riparian vegetation - a real switch for us desert-dwellers. Great for families, with lots of indoor and outdoor displays, even a bathroom and water fountains. Shaded benches for bird-watching, picnicking, and breaks for the less in-shape. You can even check out a "family backpack" from the visitor's center, which contains binoculars, bug lens, field guides, etc. Any kid would absolutely love this place! :y: Completely free, which keeps the parents happy, too. Would also be an excellent place for running.

Mesquite and acacia flowering up a storm. Yerba mansa and heliotrope also in flower.
