The mesquite and acacia were flowering so heavily the smell almost took your breath away. Enjoyed watching a raccoon, not a normal animal for us. Also, a nice family of quail.
There is a web of paved, gravel, and dirt paths around the park itself. Also connects to the River Mountain Loop and an unpaved trail which stretches the length of the Las Vegas Wash. Interesting place with plenty of riparian vegetation - a real switch for us desert-dwellers. Great for families, with lots of indoor and outdoor displays, even a bathroom and water fountains. Shaded benches for bird-watching, picnicking, and breaks for the less in-shape. You can even check out a "family backpack" from the visitor's center, which contains binoculars, bug lens, field guides, etc. Any kid would absolutely love this place! Completely free, which keeps the parents happy, too. Would also be an excellent place for running. |
