Quick after work hike with Luna. Cool views of the mountains and of Taos. Probably the closest hike to the Plaza as the Carson NF starts just a little west from the trailhead.

Super pleasant temps and a nice breeze. I saw 3 adults, 2 babies and a dog. If I lived here I would be out here frequently as the views are great.

Calf Canyon and Herman's Peak fire was visible and seems to be getting close to Taos, but the air quality so far has been fine.

First hike in Taos and probably going to be a regular trail run. 5 min. from off duty quarters. There are numerous trails on both sides of the road including one going all the way to Angel Fire. Snow on back side of the loop. Looks like it should be avoided after a rain with the deep foot prints on parts of the trail. It was a brisk 22 degrees when I started and had removed all layers by the end of the hike. I heard and then spied my opposite picking up from Holy Cross and heading south toward Santa Fe or Albuquerque on the way up. Great to have activities during my off time.

got into Taos a little later than planned and the weather was sketchy so i opted for this local loop rather than driving up higher into the mountains (i had certainly seen enough rain today).

excellent little loop to somewhat wooded summit affording very nice views of Taos and also looking up towards the bigger peaks. weather held, temps were lovely and the trees and views gave me just what i needed after a long drive.

located about 5 minutes from town, this hike is an excellent quick getaway and no doubt highly popular with the locals looking to get a good quick work out in

Saturday, April 24, 2010 I was looking for an easier hike at relatively lower elevations with no snow to deal with. I came up with the Devisadero Loop (Carson trail 108) located just 3 miles from Taos city. This very pleasant trail is easy to follow and goes to Devisadero Peak at 8,304 feet and yields some terrific views of beautiful Taos city and the surrounding mountains.

I met 2 locals on the route. Both use this trail for an exercise hike because it is a beauty and close to home for them.

The loop is less than 6 miles with an elevation gain of 1,100 feet (AEG about 1,300 feet). I finished at 12:10 PM allowing me to return to Angel Fire and get packed for an early departure for the 557 mile drive home Sunday morning.
