The Hualapais are no longer an option until next spring, so I am trying out other local trails and trying to get as much elevation in as I can. I went right at the start, since it is steeper, and in 1.3 miles came to the overlook point with the benches. Continued a short distance up the hill on the Castle Rock Trail, which meets the end of the Badger Trail if you continue on it for 3.6 miles. I wanted to gain a view of Unnamed Peak 5150ish, which looks doable to me looking at the topo. It would be about 10 miles total using either Badger/Castle Rock or Camp Beale/Castle Rock, with less than a mile off trail for about the final 800 feet. Lots of chem trails today obstructing the sun, so I was cold in the wind. The second pass was nicer as the sun had broken through by then. Nice little trail with good views. Didn't come across anyone else hiking, but there were 2 other vehicles at the trailhead.

The Fort Beale Loop is a local Kingman trail that is used by hikers and mountain bikers alike. This trail is dog friendly though I had to pick cactus tines out of mine at the end. It has some very steep and rocky sections so proper foot gear is a must. It offers some stunning vistas of the nearby Hualapai mountain range and the surrounding mesas. My dog and I sat at the top where there is a bench at the branch where you can go left to continue down the loop or right to continue on to some other trails to watch a spectacular sunset. (It should be noted that we started off going to the right at the trailhead. It appears that you're actually supposed to start off going to the left at the trailhead though it's not labeled as such.)

I would not recommend this trail in the summer months as it's liable to be too hot and there are plenty of places for rattlesnakes to hide right next to the trail. This trail is narrow and sometimes hard to see in failing light so be familiar with it if you're going to hike up to watch the sunset or you're liable to wander into the middle of a cactus forest on accident. Take plenty of water and go to the bathroom before hitting this trail. There is no water and no facilities, just a small parking lot at the trailhead. We're going to explore the other trails that connect to the loop in the near future.

Yay! Took the kids out for a hike (7 & 9), they handled this one well and I was able to run back and forth on the trail.
