Day 85. Camped near 1662.8 (6.9)
After resupplying and hanging out waiting for the heat to subside some, I walked out of Seiad Valley at 5:00 PM. Not too far, the road walk ends and I turned onto trail and started the long climb up out of Seiad Valley. Maybe six miles into it, there's a spring where I stopped to get water for the night and the next morning. There was a lot of smoky haze from fires and the view to the west was pretty spectacular with the setting sun. The water was a trickle so it took about 3 minutes to fill a liter bottle. After the spring, I continued the climb close to a mile farther where I reached a saddle and a place to camp.

Day 86. Camped near 1692.2 (29.4)
Finished the climb out of Seiad Valley this morning. There were great views from the top even though they were obscured from the smoke. Once the climb was finished, the terrain was much easier though there were some longer water carries with the water sources a bit of a distance off trail. Made it to the California/Oregon border near the end of the day! What a great feeling to cross into Oregon! Went another half mile or so where I found a nice place to set up camp.

Day 87. To Ashland at 1718.7 (26.5)
When I was in Seiad Valley, I heard that the Hendrix Fire reroute of the PCT was lifted. That was great news, so today I got to stay on the previously closed 13 miles of the PCT instead of taking the 20 mile detour. That was a relief because with the seven extra miles I wouldn't have made it all the way to the road to Ashland today. Passed the 1700 mile mark. Had three bits of trail magic today. All were coolers left beside the trail. The first I had a soda and rested for too long. The second I had another soda, some cheese, and some fruit. The third was where I finished hiking for the day and I had some grapes. It was smoky out today so the views were limited. Got a quick hitch into Ashland, got cleaned up, did laundry, ate, etc.
