Woke up to a cold, COLD morning. There was frost on everything! My son had decided to cowboy-camp, and ended up covered in frost!
Oh, well. Not much else to do, but hit the trail, and start hiking! Incredible views of mountain valley spread before us! Just amazing.
The first couple of miles, we were hiking along the side of the mountain, heading for Granite Pass. Easy ups and downs. Crossed several small streams, could have stopped and filtered if we needed it.
Took a short break at Granite Pass, then took a DEEP BREATH, and started the switch-backs up and Up and UP! Too many to count!
Finally, we reached the top, rounded the corner, and WOW! Another view to take our breath away! (as if the switch-backs hadn't already done that!)
From there to Cutthroat Pass, the trail was mostly level, easy hiking.
At Cutthroat Pass, another incredible view. The whole day was just one view after another. Then, the long down, down down to Rainy Pass.
We crossed several streams, but had plenty. No need to filter.
Reached Rainy Pass at about 3:45. My sister and sister-in-law were there to welcome the conquering heroes! DANG! Forgot the A&W to celebrate with! Oh, well. Next time.
Thanks to my son (my favorite hiking buddy), and my kid sister, Colleen, for being such wonderful hiking partners. As you know, I couldn't have done it without you! Thank you SO much.
Thanks, Lanelle (another sister), for helping with the driving. We appreciated it.
Thanks, Roy & Michele (brother and sister-in-law), for the hospitality of your home and food. Those chicken salad sandwiches were to DIE for! |
