| partners | | I added a mile in the trip length because we tried hiking up Smuggler's Canyon to get back to the high country... Well, it was fun to say the least. The description of the canyon in my "guide book" was vague at best, and we ended up at a pour-off which some in the party were not comfortable scrambling beyond. It was a little dicey, particularly since we weren't even sure it was the right tributary to be following in the first place!
As is typical in June, the morning was completely covered in fog, and by mid-day we were sweating and hot as we climbed the hills. We encountered some interesting cultural and natural history along the way, and I finished the hike with tremendous satisfaction at having finally gotten to see at least a little more of this fascinating island.
Then I added another 2 miles for the back-and-forth to the beach over this day and the next for kayaking/gear/sunset/photos/ferry/whatnot. Lots of walking on an island with no cars (for visitors anyhow). I love it. There's a lifestyle I can really get into.  |
