Steady climb up past Kennedy Lake and continuing on unofficial but well-worn trail over 10,800' Big Sam and then down into lovely High Emigrant and Emigrant Meadows Lakes basin, return past Relief Reservoir. Lots of water and wildflowers, especially lupine.
KM is a very busy place, from the official trailhead parking lot its a nearly 2 mile road walk to the wilderness boundary and actual start of the trail (I mountain biked to the start). KM is also a popular start for horsepacking trips, and lots of cows are grazed in the meadows below Kennedy Lake. |
