| no partners | | | Had planned to hike this two weeks ago but fire closures prevented us from doing so. We didn't think we'd get another great day but yesterday's weather was unbelievable. Not a cloud to be seen anywhere, even around the peaks. All the big players were out: Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens and of course, the focus of this hike, Mt. Jefferson. Damage from the recent fire is evident. The trail goes through some of the burned out areas and when walking in those areas there is still a smokey smell. A couple of downed trees but nothing too bad. All in all, the trail was in good shape. While we were too late for summer flowers, the fall colors are really starting to come out. My camera didn't pick up the nice red colors but as with most things, it's better experienced in person. Only a couple small patches of snow to cross near the ridge but you could easily skirt those if you wanted. At the ridge it was windy but the views were gorgeous. This is one hike that we try to make every year, it's just that good!!! |
