Worried that we would not be able to find parking at Pantoll (thanks to Jim Lyding for additional info) we arrived to find both lots full but backtracked down the hill 0.4 mile to another lot. What an absolutely gorgeous hike! Once the route starts paralleling Webb Creek the surroundings are just a sight to behold: a flowing stream with many waterfalls under a canopy of huge redwoods (I know, lots of pictures of trees here!) plus other interesting trees, ferns, moss. After passing the defunct dam the character of the hike changes dramatically into California scrub. It was here in the latter part of the hike that we spotted our first banana slug. I did not think we would see even one, as it turned out we saw five more. This first one was the largest and most colorful, quite a discovery! After shooting a number of pics I wondered whether this one would make it off the trail alive! Now out in the open we got our first views of Stinson Beach and the changing vegetation. The beach was very windy, nonstop cool conditions. We noted just how close some of these homes were to the ocean! After a while we headed back up the trail, anxious to get into the forested part of the hike. Nice and cool once again we enjoyed the stream and the beauty of the hike. Highly recommended. |
