I went with the intention of getting some wildflower photos but since there were only a few scarce patches here and there I ended up doing a quick, steep, off trail hike to catch a sunset on the summit of Robinson Mountain instead.
For such a small little mountain/hill it actually had phenomenal 360° views of the area I grew up in, I could literally see the 3 different houses I lived in during my childhood which all resided within the DP area. Not to mention there was such a sweet view of the mighty San Francisco Peaks as well as O' Leary, Darton Dome, The Bonito Lava Flow, etc.. You get the point it's actually quite a nice little place!
I overlooked a large herd of deer grazing on the mountainside while my dog and I enjoyed a pleasant sunset, silence and panoramic views. Felt nice to go on a hike and then be back "home" within a few minutes.
This trip really made me miss Flagstaff, being able to just dip out on any random forest road nearly anywhere around the city and be in the woods was always something I enjoyed growing up there and I appreciate even more now as an adult! |
