A great hike and I happen to be lucky enough to spot several California Snow Flowers. If you check the photos you will see a few shots of different ones I found along the trail. The California Snow Flower is a rare fungus flower that without any chlorophyl is a bright red. It appears out of the thick forest floor of pines and is said to have been a favorite of the legendary John Muir. It is also known as the Snow Plant (Sarcodes Sanguinea). The plant is about a foot tall. Every hike brings a new discovery.
