Went back to bag Lembert Dome on my last day in the park. The climb to the actual summit is a bit of class 2.

We made a pit stop along Tioga Road for a quick side trip up Lembert Dome. You get a lot of bang for your buck on this short trail--some quick elevation gain to beautiful 360 degree vistas of Tuolumne Meadow and the surrounding mountains. Topping out at about 9,500 elev., this was the highest altitude we hiked to on our Yosemite trip. As we were in a bit of a rush to get to Lone Pine in advance of our Mt. Whitney attempt, we skipped the extra spur trail to Dog Lake. As with the whole Yosemite trip, there were just too many cool things to do, and just not enough time.

Other places along Tioga Road that we wanted to explore, but had to settle for roadside snapshots include Olmstead Point, Tuolomne Meadow, and Tenaya Lake...

Looking forward to going back ...

On our way into Yosemite we drove across the Tioga Pass. I convinced Cheryl to give me an hour to check out Lembert Dome. We've driven by it before and I was desperate to reach the summit. I left Cheryl by the parking lot and walked towards the dome and headed in a clockwise direction. I noticed right away this was not the official trail. There were random foot paths all over the place and I followed the trails in a general upward direction. I was huffing for air on the ascent. I checked my gps and saw I was at roughly 9,000 feet.

After some effort, I reached the saddle and saw my path to the summit. I followed the granite up and continued towards the peak. There were people spread out all over the dome. I worked my way to the summit. From there I enjoyed the views and took everything in. The high country of Yosemite is breathtaking!

After hanging out for a few minutes I returned to the trail. This time I followed the official trail back to Tioga Road. At this point I wanted to get back to Cheryl as quickly as possible so I just followed the road. I was back in a few minutes and we continued our journey.

Lembert Dome is a nice hike with spectacular views! I definitely recommend it if you have 1-2 hours to spend in the area.

Hiked a loop from Dog Lake parking area. South to John Muir Trail crossing Dana Fork of Tuolumne River and then Lyell Fork at Twin Bridges. Turned right toward Visitor Center and hiked downstream and on the back of campground a trail with high horse traffic. Turned right about 0.1 mi before visitor center, crossed Tioga Road and went straight to Parsons Lodge and Soda Springs - seen lots of people wandering around Tuolumne Meadows. Followed the jeep road to Lembert Dome parking, turned left there and went to Lembert Dome and then returned to Dog Lake parking.
