There are no real hiking trails in the hills so I had to make my own using Google Earth. I discovered that by combining the Old West Hwy 70 (closed for 40+ years) and a jeep trail, it would make for a nice loop in the heart of the Southwestern portion of the Black Hills. This one turned out to be an absolute home run! Both the jeep trail & the old Hwy were in great shape, the old Hwy still has most of it's surface left, and the loop's scenery of the hills and beyond just blew me away! There will be many, many more hikes for me along (and off) this trail in the near future. Definitely one of my top 5 hikes of the Year!
The only bummer of this hike was the very overcast skies, I took a little over 300 pics and none really captured the awesome scenery I saw. |
