| no partners | | Joined my son and some cub scouts on a hike around the ponds and were impressed with this park. Saw a ton of birds, including water birds, swallows, a pair of hawks, and a covey of the fattest quail I've ever seen. The highlight was seeing a roadrunner. All over the park were lots of jackrabbits and a few cottontails. Some areas had nests for burrowing owls and signs marking those areas as off-limits. I noticed that there were less trees and therefore no feral cats, unlike Gilbert's Riparian. This made visibility of birds a lot better too. The man-made hills were a nice feature, but some parts of them looked like the sun had scorched the plants in the past. The running river looked great from a distance but we didn't get close because a crew was doing a project there. The scouts enjoyed looking at some stations about the planets and their distances from each other. |
