There were storm clouds hovering all around the area and I was sure I would get caught in one on this trail, I did but not untill the last 1/2 mile of the hike. The hike itself was just a wonderful easy walk through the forest & along the river. I came across 2 backpackers at their camp towards the end of the trail and visited with them for awhile before turning around and heading back. Had the whole place to myself the hike back. Came across 2 garter snakes on the trail the last mile and a very vocal hawk. Very beautiful area & trail!!!
This was to be just a day trip but I was so taken by the area that I decided to stop at Big Lake and spent the night. Got a campsite at the Grayling campground (#23) and setup as another storm hit the lake for about a 1/2 hour. Made my way down to the lake after the storm to watch the sunset. Built a fire back at camp to end the day and fell asleep listening to a elk bugle. |
