| partners | | What a blast! Great way to get out of the summer heat. We went from the main entrance all the way back to the main lake (wow!), then we went off to the west of the Big Room after squeezing through a tiny opening and went all the way back to the Library, or "Sign In" room, where the sign in notebook is. Currently it is marked with spray paint on the wall "SIGN IN". We didn't go any farther than that room, which was probably another 600 feet west of the Big Room.
The water in the lake was probably in the 60s, I thought seriously about going for a swim, but didn't want to be at a disadvantage for the rest of the trip by walking around soaking wet.
Thanks so much to the 3 who helped lead us back beyond the Big Room to the Sign-In Room. We never would have even tried to go that far on our own! The guy leading us was from Tucson, with a friend from Texas and another from (of all places), my hometown of Augusta, Georgia, who was here visiting. She even knew where the town was where my parents live nearly an hour away, with a population of 200. Small world!!
We did get fairly nasty, but we never had to wade through any mud where we went. The tiny opening west of the Great Room (known as The love-nest by local spelunkers) did make you get ankle deep in muddy water while squeezing through. When I got home I took my clothes and my shoes and just tossed them in the dumpster!
It was cooler inside than outside, I'm guessing in the 70s, but with the humidity in there it felt like it was in the 80s there in places. |
