It's wet out... and cold! 52 degrees at 2:30pm!!

Just back from the morning's exploratory hike. Late start, but I figured it would not make much difference today... it rained all night, and was likely to continue the pattern through the day. It did... half of the five hours out were spent walking under the umbrella.

I was checking out the two upper forks of July canyon, spotted the other day...so, the initial miles were back over and along 6th Gate Logging road. Unlike the first hike, so Elk filled, today there were only a few encounters: 10-12 elk. Either the later start or the storm made a huge difference.

Both upper forks proved out... with the East fork being a real find. It terminated on top of the ridge right where three other trails meet! I never would have thought to head over and find it from the upper end. Now I know.

Mileage slowly getting back up... 13 miles today...1500' climbing. All easy grade and high elevation. Be nice when I get it back up beyond the 30 mile mark... that will take another six weeks?

Driving up yesterday I hit a big storm wave below Cloudcroft... torrential rains... above the Village I was driving through 2 inch deep slush, the remainder of heavy hail dropped in that same storm. Interesting that the weather in July so matches the weather in January! I need to haul up more winter clothing... more blankets!

It's all good!
