Early morning hike in Prescott. Purpose of this hike was to explore some of the user trails that I came across a couple of weeks ago when I did Banning Creek. But I wanted to hit a new trail at the same time. Trail 371 was the obvious choice.

I got to the White Spar TH around 5:30am. Went in on the Goldwater trail (.2 miles) and then onto the Twist and Shout trail (.3miles) to reach trail 371. Trail 371 is a campground user access trail. From Twist and Shout the trail switchbacks down about 30 feet before ending near some campsites about .23 miles in. This trail is great for nearby camp users, but serves no other purpose. Camp users could do this circuit (just described) and get maybe a mile. For me, this was just “checking” the 371 trail box. :) Returning up 371, I rejoined Twist and Shout and took that over to Apple Blossom and then took Apple Blossom over to where it intersects with Hidden Valley. At this intersection, Hidden Valley goes both north and south. If you take Hidden Valley about 200 feet north you reach the TH for both Hidden Valley and Banning Creek; which is what I did.

Since most of the following info is relevant to Banning Creek, I am going to add today’s hike info, to my earlier Banning Creek entry. Overall great hike. Hiked a new trail and explored some user trails that is helping to develop a picture for this area. Didn’t see anyone for the first couple of hours, but encountered about 20 users by the end of the day. One was a group of 9. All solo hikers were dog walkers(saw 7 dogs on todays hike). Also saw 4 deer, squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, lizards and a snake colored like a rattle snake, but without the rattle.
