I got to the trailhead around 5:05am, and got started as soon as I could(5:10am) It was a lot cooler than expected, so I wanted to get going. From where I parked, it was less than .1 miles to Sour Water Wash, then 1.25 miles to Race Track Wash takes over. I didnt notice the other wash because it was still dark. The wash finally dumps into Cienega Creek around the 2.6 mile mark. I did a little exploring in this area for a few minutes. A found a few shot gun shells, hunters makers in the trees, and a couple of campfire sites. I did a loop to one of the smaller hills to get a better look of the area, then went back down to the creek. There are nice meadows of grass and wild flowers everywhere on this hike. On the way back there where a lot of birds. Every tree near the wash seamed to have a couple birds singing. I did see two blue birds, and countless smaller birds. There was only one thing I didnt like about the hike. For most of the hike, you are less than 1 mile from the local trash dump. After 7ish, you could hear the trucks beeping when they where backing up. For about a mile heading back north in the creek, you could smell the trash.
I did enjoyed this hike more than I thought I would. It was a great hike for the dogs, but I dont think it would be something I would do again.
