With no plans for the day I decided to drive out FR172 until I got the urge to start wandering. And once I got wandering I ended up so close to this peak I figured I'd head up to the summit again. Although it was over four times the distance as when I first climbed it over two years ago, it was a much easier route.

I made sure to take a photo of the area which may very well end up a 500' mountain of tailings within 25-30 years.

Tracey liked the photos I took yesterday so finally with a day off (after working 9 days straight) we went back to the same area, only I drove in from the east instead of from FR172.

No such luck of encountering any Javelina today, just one huge deer that up and was gone so fast there was no chance of a photo, let alone a video. In fact, all Tracey saw of it was its tail, and by the size of the tail she knew it had to be one large deer, which I could verify based on my viewpoint.

It was an interesting enough area that even after taking 70+ photos yesterday I took another 30+ today, which means I'm even farther behind on posting them.

As close as I was able to drive to the summit for my start point, it should only have bee a .8 mile round trip. But as usual I did not want to take the same route back so swung southward to make a big loop. As I found more interesting things along the way the loop continually grew larger. Then after scaring up a herd of Javelina, I kept following them taking videos along the way until I found myself all the way into another canyon. Wondering what else I might find, I continued on until I encountered a wash that had some recent ATV use so I decided to see how far and where it went. It kept going and going and going until I found myself on a road I drove on last week. Now that I found that out it was time to head back to the car, three canyons away. From then on I meandered wherever something caught my attention until I made it back to the car... almost seven miles farther than anticipated along with an extra 1200 or so feet of accumulated elevation but found enough things of interest to bring me back out this way soon.

Again too many photos along with a whole bunch of Javelina video to edit before posting on my website. :-({|=
