| partners | | Very nice singletrack trail system, even with horses and dirt bikes allowed, lovely forest and creeks and some big views (on a clear day at least). Started at the Holly Road Wildcat trailhead at the north forest boundary and did a clockwise lasso: Wildcat > Gold Creek > Plummer > Beaver Pond > Wildcat. Would also be good mountain biking, with plenty of graded logging roads for the ride up then fun fast downhill. |

| no partners | | Somewhat overcast day but there was a nice breeze so it wasn't too hot out there. Lots of people out on the trail today but it really didn't feel crowded. Trail is dusty but overall in good shape. Even with the overcast still had views of Seattle and the Olympics. |

| no partners | | Trail Runners? Check. Mountain Bikers? Check. Horses? Check. Motorcycles? Check. Blue skies? Check. Boy Scout Troop? Check. We saw all kinds out on the trails today. Bluebird conditions brought out everyone. While we saw lots of people, it didn't feel overly crowded. Happy to get in the first hike of the year. We did the loop starting with the Gold Creek trail up to the vista and took the Plummer trail on the way back down. Great views of the Olympics and from the viewpoint we could we could even see downtown Seattle and the Space Needle. Granted that view was a little hazy but still it was great to be rewarded for the trek up. Great weather out on the trails today capped with a visit to Silver City Brewery on the way home. |

| no partners | | We were looking something relatively close to Seattle to take advantage of the forecasted good weather. We did this hike almost 5 years ago so it was time to re-visit it. Definitely a lot more signage this time around and the the trails were in excellent shape given that they are open to hikers, bikers, horses and motorcycles. The clear cut section just below the Vista Trail provides excellent views of the Olympics -- we will have to return in the winter. We hiked the Gold Creek trail to the junction with the Vista trail. Then we backtracked to the Beaver Pond trail and took the Plummer trail back to the Gold Creek trail. Just under 6 miles total. Capped off with a stop at Silver City Brewery for some after hike refreshments. Views toward Seattle were OK but the views of the Olympics were great. Would be great to take this hike again once there is more snow on the Olympics. Parking lot was pretty crowded but the trails did not feel too crowded. |

| no partners | | Forecast was for sunny weather so we opted for this view hike. However, the morning fog never burned off but we had a nice hike in the snow. Lower parts of the trail had little snow but the upper sections were covered in snow but a worn path made for pretty easy going with just hiking boots. No real views but had the sky been clear, you'd definitely get great views of the Olympics. We saw a few souls on the trail but for the most part we had the trail to ourselves. Even with the overcast weather not a bad winter hike for Seattle. |
