Birthday walk/tour with my bestest buddy Dodson. What a beautiful day to be walking through history at Valley Forge National Park. Cherry blossoms were in full bloom! Weather was perfect.

Valley Forge is a 3,500 acre historic park with 26 miles of trails ,the encampment site of the Continental Army 12/19/1777-6/19/1778.In town for a wedding and wanted some quick exercise, these historic areas draw me like a magnet. For a more complete triplog of Valley Forge see the excellent one by kingsnake which I just now read. I drove into the park passed the visitor center not open at 0700 ,past the memorial arch and parked near the base of Mount Joy. Started between the artillery park and redoubt 3 and roughly following the J.P. Martin "we were determined to persevere" trail to the Schuylkill River and Washington's headquarters and returning the same way several stops along the way to take pictures and to orient, despite being very windy I enjoyed this brief outing.

Was last here three years ago, or a few months before I joined HAZ. Was in Philadelphia visiting aunt and cousins, so decided to stop by Valley Forge in order to 1) get some exercise and 2) document it for hike description purposes. It was cold, and I even briefly got snowed on (the grainy pellet kind) for a minute by the Unknown Soldier monument. Surprised I did not see any deer, since they are such a problem, even closer to the city. Most of the hike was on a paved hike/bike path. Even if you don't have time for a hike, or a driving tour, make sure you check out the museum if you are in the area.

Walked from Exton to Norristown to meet some friends before I return home. I was too cheap to get a cab and am too much of a snob to take public transportation. Plus, I had nothing better to do. My route was supposed to be 15 miles, but I got kicked off the Route 202 by a state trooper and got lost on the back roads, so it ended up being about 20 miles.

I headed up the 401 from the 202 to Phoenixville Pike, and then up Route 29, eventually leading to Valley Forge Historic Park. I looked for snakes along the way, and looked the day before in Exton and at my friend's place in Chadds Ford. I found none, but I set up some trash and rock piles by her place, so they're be waiting for me next year.

Wildlife seen on the walk and in Exton was a few deer, a lot of red-tailed hawks, a few frogs, groundhogs, and some painted turtles. The duckling was seen trying to cross a busy road.

Valley Forge Park was somewhat disappointing, and I got lost on the Schukyll River Trail System. I never made it to Norristown but was able to get to LA Fitness to shower and catch a ride to my friend's place.
