Had planned to do Grand Park via Lake Eleanor but snow on the road about 1.5 miles caused us to turn around and do this hike instead. It didn't disappoint. Lots of green and falls and creeks were all flowing pretty good. Decent views from both the first and second viewpoints. Lots of paintbrush blooming at the second viewpoint.

Great day for a hike and we were surprised how few people we saw today. Perhaps everyone was taking advantage of the free National Parks day just up the road at Mt. Rainier NP. Trail was in good shape. We almost 4 miles to the section that opens up and gives good views of Mt. Rainier. And the mountain was out today. Virtually no bugs and wildflowers are just starting to come out. Saw our first trillium of the season. Thought the falls might be a little low on water but they were beautiful as always. Overall a great and peaceful day out on the trail today.

Left Seattle under dark skies but pockets of sunshine started to appear by the time we hit the trailhead. Lots of water in Lower Dalles Falls which was very nice. We made it to the ridge and the first viewpoint, but alas the views were muted by clouds across the valley. We continued on to the second falls and while it was sunny on the ridge, the clouds prevented any views of Mt. Rainier. But it still made for a nice lunch spot. Someone had placed a small soldier and flag on shrub branch on the ridge, very fitting for Memorial Day weekend (see attached pix).

Beautiful day on the trail. Saw a couple trail runners and ran into some mountain bikers on the way back, but only two other hiking groups on the trail. Great views along this trail. Each viewpoint gets better. Had the last one all to ourselves for lunch.
