After settling in a little bit at my Camping Spot on Stoner Mesa, I decided to walk the Road back down a bit and see if there was any Wildlife becoming more Active...I got to a Spot that I had passed before, when I was driving up, where there was a Horse Corral. I discovered that it was also a TH for Twin Springs Trail...No Map or anything, but I figured, Why Not? And down the Trail I went...Within 50 Yards at the bottom of the little Downhill, you arrive at the "Twin Springs"...The Water ran downhill a bit further into a very small "Reservoir" (as stated on the Topo)....I checked that out and continued along the Trail which was very nice for about another 1/4 of a Mile. It looked like there had been some recent Maintenance done, as the Downfall was cut and moved away from the Trail.
That would all End though...On the Drive up there, I noticed that Water was flowing everywhere...The Rivers were full and fast, and there were lots of Creeks that had really good Flow as well...On the Walk on the Road to the TH, I was noticing that there were tons of "Seeps" around and there was a small Creek, complete with Frogs, running down the Edge of the Road and Crossing under at various times...It seemed like the Mesa was nothing but a giant Seep... This became even more evident as I continued down the Trail...The Maintenance had seemed to stop for awhile and I could see why...If the Trail wasn't under Water, then it was ankle deep mud, made worse by the Wildlife that was using the Trail as a Pathway....It got to the Point, I was spending all of my Time trying to circumvent the Trail and still not be Wading or Sinking...The Trail was still evident by all means, just not very "user friendly" right now... I finally gave up after about 1/2 Mile and turned around...I think once that dries out just a little bit, it will be a really nice Trail to do...
With that being said, I will be calling and inquiring about the Trails in this area...I have a feeling that one has been rerouted and another possibly abandoned altogether...Some of it doesn't match up to what is shown on HAZ...I am sure that I was on what HAZ is calling the East Twin Springs Trail, but they are no longer calling it that...I will see if I can confirm it all...
Regardless, it was a nice little Stroll and I can see a Return to this Area again... |
