This is a great hike if you want a quick way to get above treeline without a lot of work. The trail quickly carries you to treeline from the TH and then you essentially walk ups and downs on the Continental Divide the rest of the way to Ida.

Had my first moose encounter just before breaking form the trees. I had my headphones in, and a moose ran right in front of me no more than 20 yards ahead on the trail. I wish I had gotten a photo of my face. We just gave him some space and waited. While we waited we discovered a 2nd moose in the trees nearby. Eventually they moved far enough off the trail we were comfortable continuing.

The trail is very well defined for most of the hike, but eventually you hit a boulder field that obscures the trail and from there you are following a bunch of very faint routes to the summit. If in doubt, just follow the divide.

Awesome views of the Never Summer Mountains on one side of the divide and some basins filled with lakes on the other.
