Took the Kisva out from the Kingfisher Bridge (the only bridge anymore...) and looped around the Eagle's Nest. We chose to do the loop clockwise, which I think worked out for the best. The Eastern section of Eagle's Nest is a really nice trail.

After all these years, this is the first time to Red Rock State Park. I ran every section of trail, including the ones not listed on HAZ (below). Great day out there and even better time running.

Coyote Ridge
Javelina
Apache Fire
Yavapai Ridge
House of Apache Fires
East Gate

Went on the 10 am guided nature hike. We've done it once before, a couple of years ago, but it's still good. Noticed they have done a lot of work on the Apache fire house. After reaching the house we continued on the trail and came back down the Apache fire trail

As was true a couple of years ago, 2 of the 3 bridges across Oak Creek are washed out.

Lots of beautiful fall colors, including some striking cottonwoods.

Perfect weather, a storm had moved through the area, but Sedona was on the edge of it.

Went on the guided nature hike. Started on the Smoke Trail, then used the Bunkhouse and Kingfisher Bridge to get to the House of Apache Fire, then returned on the remainder of the Bunkhouse.

Black Hawk and Sentinel Crossings are both washed out.

With a 3 day weekend due to the holiday we wanted to get away for a bit. The 3rd quarter started off rough for both of us as we had parent teacher conferences literally the first day back from winter break.

We both decided that a day trip to Sedona was in order. We received a free day pass for a state park the day we got engaged at the Grand Canyon and decided to finally use it. The trails are obviously very well maintained and the park itself has some pretty decent views of the surrounding areas. It would be a spectacular area to visit in the fall to absorb the fall colors. The ground was littered with the remains of the fall foliage and definitely had an upstate NY feel to it.

The plan was to take the Eagles Nest trail up to the vista but we just meandered through the several trails on our way. Some parts of the trails were muddy and we did our best not to end up on our backsides. Overall, it was a fun excursion. We had burgers at a place downtown afterwards and enjoyed the views.

Arrived in the Verde Valley yesterday - Miss the Canyon already!
The place I am temporarily staying in Cornville is horrible, and I am desperate to get my own place as quickly as possible! Really - it's horrible ... uncomfortable, and I don't feel safe.
Had today free before I start work tomorrow ... needed to get out of this hellhole, and really needed some nature time.
Being that it's only 20 minutes away, it's free, and I had never been there, Red Rock State Park seemed to be the perfect choice.
Started by checking out the nice little visitor's center, then took Bunkhouse to Smoke, crossed the creek at Black Hawk crossing, then Kisva to Apache Fire, then down and across the Kingfisher Bridge, then the other part of Bunkhouse back to the VC.
Went in and chatted with MaryAnn - a nice volunteer - and asked her if she knew the circumference of the massive cottonwood tree near the Kingfisher Bridge ... she knew the tree I was talking about, apparently it's called the "wedding tree", but not the circumference.
House of Apache Fire is cool. The trails are lovely, and I will certainly be a frequent visitor. Not many birds, and no other wildlife today - but it wasn't the best timing ... next time I will go early.
