| no partners | | Arrived in the Verde Valley yesterday - Miss the Canyon already!
The place I am temporarily staying in Cornville is horrible, and I am desperate to get my own place as quickly as possible! Really - it's horrible ... uncomfortable, and I don't feel safe.
Had today free before I start work tomorrow ... needed to get out of this hellhole, and really needed some nature time.
Being that it's only 20 minutes away, it's free, and I had never been there, Red Rock State Park seemed to be the perfect choice.
Started by checking out the nice little visitor's center, then took Bunkhouse to Smoke, crossed the creek at Black Hawk crossing, then Kisva to Apache Fire, then down and across the Kingfisher Bridge, then the other part of Bunkhouse back to the VC.
Went in and chatted with MaryAnn - a nice volunteer - and asked her if she knew the circumference of the massive cottonwood tree near the Kingfisher Bridge ... she knew the tree I was talking about, apparently it's called the "wedding tree", but not the circumference.
House of Apache Fire is cool. The trails are lovely, and I will certainly be a frequent visitor. Not many birds, and no other wildlife today - but it wasn't the best timing ... next time I will go early. |
