Took the harem out to do the Tramonto Peaks loop. It's been awhile for me and it looks like not many others have been using the trail. Parked in the community park, amidst the numerous no trespassing signs. The trail from the parking lot over to the road is almost non-existent. Crossing the road the official trail is faint at spots but easy to follow up to the saddle. We did an out and back to the northern peak. The trail over to the eastern peak is in pretty good shape to the split, and then super faint to the top. Enjoyed the view from the top and watched the 15 hot air balloons from sunrise making their descent into the neighborhood below. We continued our east and met up with, what's left of, the old jeep road that takes you the rest of the was to the base of the hill. We had to climb over a new looking gate to meet up with the east end of the Tramonto trail. Following the Tramonto trail west back to the saddle split proved challenging. Most of it is just gone. Gallydoll kicked a cholla into her leg, which was quite difficult to remove. Hard to imagine the residents at Tramonto don't take advantage of this gem right in their backyard. It funny that the unofficial trails are in better condition than the official trail.

Headed out to Tramonto today. I've never hiked this area before, but always wanted to. It's part of the Sonoran Preserve, I guess, but it's not really. Not yet anyways. I parked in the neighborhood park off Languid and Via Aguila accessed from 27th Dr. and Carefree Highway. Beautiful neighborhood and park; but there was nobody in the park or on the "trail". I guess this area is not well known except for a few hikers and neighborhood residents. I used Nightstalker's route as a guide. Thanks for that. Other than the very beginning and some on the ridges and peaks, there really is no trail. Route finding at it's finest! I made sure to visit all three peaks and each climb was harder than the one before it. You really need good balance and grippy shoes because there is so much loose granite like ball-bearings! The mountainsides were plenty green too! Not much wildlife or human life though! I was the only one out here all day. The constant gunshots from the nearby firing range and the traffic from the Carefree Highway were a little off-putting though. You wander a little too close to people's backyards at some parts which isn't fun. Will the city ever expand into this area a trail system like the Preserve further South? Only time will tell. :)

After work hike. Parked just above the tennis court/pool area and followed a fading trail east to where it crosses N Via Tramonto Rd. And enters the Sonoran Preserve proper. I've used this parking area as my staging area for the last several years, but it looks as if the access trail is getting minimal use. But once I crossed Tramonto Rd. the trail became it's clear, established self. Followed the low level trail (very pretty with unique formations, despite the homes which are a stone throw away) to the opening where I started the climb to the saddle. Hit the middle peak (I believe 2265) which is now supporting an American flag. It's been cemented in, so it looks like it is there to stay. From there I went down the east side and tagged peak 2448, which I hadn't done on my previous visit. There is a single trail that starts up this peak, but it splits half way up. I followed the west up and came down the east side to form a loop. Views were ok from the top. It was pretty HAZey from the top. Good climb. I'm happy to say I managed it without any slips or falls. Saw one person on the first ridgeline and then a group of others, off trail scrambling around. Great weather to be out! No wildlife.

A quick snag of the geocache that's on top of the 2nd tallest peak. As I've already summited all four of these peaks, I didn't bother to go back over to Peak 2448, Tramonto Peak proper. I summited the two middle height peaks.

Bagged all three of the Tramonto peaks today. The chute ascent to the middle one required some audible "You can do its!". Found a new route over to the tallest peak, 2448 that you can see from my route that avoids a nasty descent from the middle peak.

Heard my first rattlesnake of the year at the 2448 saddle. FROZE but never saw it.

This is a good example of the fact that hikes don't necessarily have to be epic to be fun. I'd been staring at this peak since I moved into the new house. Today I summitted it. I will say it is very steep to the top and combined with some of the loosest scree I've been on. It's the little pea gravel granite sized pieces that are just a slip and slide. You might want to bring your trekking poles, as I wish I'd had mine.

After work hike. Hiked from the parking lot just north of the pools and tennis courts. Followed the trail up to the first saddle between the western most peaks. There are basically three noticeable prominences on the western side of this small "range." They are situated very close together so I hit all three. The third of which as was the tallest and steepest one (about 2450) involved some hand scrambling. Went down the backside of this third peak, off trail, and reconnected to a lower level path that made its way toward a black rock covered ridgeline. I actually did not go over to this ridgeline, though I'm fairly certain that the trail eventually made its way to the top. Instead, I took this lower level path back to the saddle between the western most peaks. And from there back to the TH. Weather was warm....about 110, but the intermittent breeze felt good. Didn't see anyone or anything out there except for a lone rabbit and chipmunk.

It has been 2 and a half years since I last hiked Tramonto Peaks, far too long! Modified my original route to follow the trail from the first saddle north to the second saddle and skipped peak 2365. Took a different route up to peak 2448 which was really steep but pretty solid. Came back down on my original route to the west, which was far worse getting off the top with big loose rocks looking like they would trap me at the first opportunity. Followed the ridgeline to the old jeep road that eventually leads to the water tower. Trail back from there was pretty faint. Didn't feel hot until the very end. I did see three other people out on the trail this morning within the last mile.

Haven't been up on these hills in a while even though I live extremely close. Today I decided to remind myself why.

The trail up is easy to follow, but composed mostly of grus, those little pebbles, sand and gravel that can send your feet down the trail at a high rate of speed, followed closely by your posterior bumping along at equally the same rate. Nope, I didn't succumb to the grus today, but mostly due to luck and not my catlike reflexes, those having departed many moons ago.

The views from the tops of the peaks here are the reward for the ascent. You tend to linger and gaze a bit longer too knowing the gruesome grus laden descent awaiting.

its a lovely trail except its hard to follow some times, do to trails going every which way on certain areas.
parking is one the street of N Via Tramonto at the very end before the gates on your right hand side.
