| no partners | | Weekend of April 16 did this hike with a friend. We were drawn by the promise of a hike along the banks of an idyllic river, lush cottonwoods shading our every step, plentiful water. Well, that pretty much describes the first mile or two. Just north of the San Pedro house the official trail veers off from the river and pretty much never returns. It also disappears completely for about 2 miles south of Charleston. Camped on the river Saturday night at Millville, could hear two packs of illegals hustling by northbound on the railroad bed, and the Border Patrol headed southbound in the streambed during the night. Restful!
If I had it to do over again I'd totally ignore the "official" trail and just walk the stream with wet shoes ala Aravaipa.
Posted our GPX file showing the route, FWIW. |
