Our plan for day 2 was to wake up and hike up this mighty hill and watch the sunrise. What actually happened was we slept in a little and watched the nice lighting on the nearby peaks. There are a couple of pullouts to park off of on FR191c. If you have 4 legs, you'll need to jump over a lot of logs but if you have two legs you can just step over most of them. There are a handful of "trees" still standing. We didn't see any killer tree tape. The hike up is on cindery/grassy soil which was friendlier than the cinders and rocks we climbed yesterday. The views on top were pretty impressive and there is a fire mark benchmark thingy and also a register. Nice view of Horseshoe Hill which someone was too tired to hike.
I've always wanted to hike up this with a beer after a trip to the canyon. It would be a good leg stretcher and beer hike with ample camping close by. |
