A collection of things from a couple of weeks wandering the whites. Always a nice escape. Put the board on the water in Greer for an hour because I really needed a shower, and I thought $9 at the campground was a little bit excessive. A cool swim sufficed.

We checked out Greer Lakes and I decided the best way to see all the lakes was a hike and float. Starting from River Reservoir we inflated the packrafts and started the float. River Reservoir is the largest of the 3 lakes. We floated to the other end on the north side and exited the boat ramp. From there we carried boats, paddles, etc about 0.4 miles to the next one called Bunch Reservoir. We paddled to one end of the lake and had a floating lunch and beverage with the frogs providing sound effects. After that with the prevailing winds we kind of floated back down the lake going the length of the reservoir.

We exited Bunch and hauled our gear about 0.3 miles to the next one Tunnel Reservoir which is the smallest of the three. Nice float across to the other side exiting near the outlet gate. From there it was a short hike back to River Reservoir with a rocky down climb mixed in. Once on River we took our time floating to the far end but eventually we had to fight the wind back to the parking lot. Total on the track was about 4 miles with under a mile of hiking. Great way to see the lakes with minimal hiking and lots of floating :y:

After storm in the morning - took a nap. Then brought fishing poles to Greer Lakes. George is getting better at casting. Caroline likes to practice skipping rocks too. Beautiful reflection in the lakes. No osprey this year.

We walked around Tunnel lake some and then down the road to the sound of a mother osprey feeding her two (hungry) juveniles a fish dinner. All kinds of frantic flapping, pecking, squealing - wish I had videotaped the feeding frenzy.

Our kids went wild for the process - fascinated by a bird eating a fish. Fascinated by the dive-bombing mother swooping into the lake. And then trying not to fall backwards as they craned their necks to keep looking up. I was in a panic as my camera's zoom could not get enough detail - so I put my camera up to the binoculars and got some grainy stuff - but better than nothing!

A very fun kick-off to our White Mountain family vacation. We rented a cabin in Greer at 8,700 feet elevation not far from Greer Lodge. Perfect temperature and I love the shortness of breath and tachycardia of high elevation. Kids love seeing trees and green and water everywhere. Rain and hail - lakes and rivers.
