The second “hike” of the day was a last minute “throw in.” I love using using the “hikes near the trail I’m hiking” feature. It’s a great way to find hikes that may not be readily apparent. Case in point, George “Doc” Cavalliere Park. Granted, this is a bit of a stretch. But you never know what you may find. And this “trail” is practically across the street from Pinnacle Peak.

The road to turn into this park is kind of obscure. But it is right next to a Fire Station, which I used as my identifier for the turn. The parking is limited. Maybe enough for 20 cars. The park is small, but very nice (created/dedicated in 2012). In my mind, it is divided into 5 areas. The first was an open green area, almost like a dog park without the fence. Quite a few dog owners were there, which cemented the image. The second, was also an open, green area. Although this green was composed of artificial turf. This area also had a water system that could be activated for kids to play in. (I thought it was kind of ironic that they would use the water system on artificial turf which gets no benefit from the water…I know, I know, no mud either). This area is also noteworthy for its gambion walls. My wife would love them. The third area was a covered playground with an incredibly soft rubber surface. The fourth area were 3 fenced in basketball courts. The fifth area, which actually justifies it being on HAZ, was a short trail that wrapped through the desert and up and around a small hill. The trail is located just past the basketball courts and is a little over .5 miles long. The trail splits near the top of the hill, allowing you to go around it, or up and over. Doing both might add .15 miles. The trail is not signed, but it fairly easy to follow and there is art work along the trail which will confirm that you are still on the trail. Nice throw in walk, but definitely not worth a drive in itself.
