 | Toprope | 5.7 | Sport | G | | | | | First outdoor climbing.
The start of Let's Meetup seemed more than 5.7 to me, and most others went left and around it. I managed, but with use of a knee at one point - poor form! Oh well.
This wall is mainly 5.7 routes, so the more experienced climbers set up three ropes/routes at once, and the less-experienced climbers took turns climbing and belaying.
Climbing outdoors is so much more fun than the gym! Nice shade from a large pinyon at the base of the wall.
Nearby, a thoughtful soul has placed a typical bolts and chains anchor set-up at about shoulder height. We spent the rest of the day on a lesson in setting and cleaning bolted anchors.
Apparently, you can reach the top of the wall (and the anchors for routes 1-5) by a scramble and rappel. This makes it nice to set up if you aren't ready to lead, or just don't feel like it. I'm sure we'll be back to this one for some practice. |
