the Pinal Mountains and antiquing in Globe: checking out the mine that made Globe what it is today: the Old Dominion. After baking in the sun in a trackless mountain canyon all day, I chose this easier ending to my day. This self guided park features interpretive displays of mine history, mining methods, and geology of the area. Most of the structures are off limits (liability issues most likely), but if you're in the area and interested in Globe's history (and there is plenty in this old mining town), then it's worth a visit. Free to get in, and open from dawn to dusk. I wrapped up my day with a Mexican food dinner at La Casita in downtown Globe, and then drove home through the eastern Pinals, Winkelman, and Mammoth. |
