A good way to spend a half day or short day in Death Valley.
Fun little canyon in a colorful part of the park. With Dante's View closed, these canyons are seeing a little more action lately.

A fun, short, introductory canyon in Death Valley with several rappels including ones from cairn anchors. Before going to Death Valley we spent a couple days practicing canyoneering skills including building cairn anchors. We were a bit disappointed that the cairn anchors we found in the canyon were bomb proof! It surprised me how easy going the canyon was. The bits between rappels was the easiest canyon walking I've ever done.

Afterwards, We followed Scorpion Canyon up with a fantastic potluck Thanksgiving dinner!

A caving friend I took along wrote a blog about our trip down Scorpion: behindtheblack.com/ ... ley/

Left Vegas at 4am, but well worth it to enjoy this warm dry canyon. Most of the rappels are nothing super fabulous, but the ambiance is. Really great rocks and soil - beautiful colors and a wide variety of rock types.
We needed to replace all but one anchor. There had been a tremendous flow through all the canyons in the area during the October storms.
A good learning experience for me with my first exposure to building cairn anchors.
