Colors and textures and downclimbs, oh my! Fun downclimbs, good practice (aka, none-too-easy) downclimbs, and more downclimbs. Rappels varied greatly from small cracks to wide open, with some pretty difficult to work your way onto. Lots of hip starts in this one, to be expected when most anchors are cairns. The views peering down toward Badwater between the canyon walls were amazing. And did I mention the downclimbs? Completed the last few rappels via headlamp, but with shorter days this time of year we had planned for that. The hike out was very short and easy, although we almost ran straight into our shuttle vehicle because it was so dark
We looked to be the first down the canyon this season and replaced nearly 200 feet of webbing. One piece had been nearly cut through, and I sure hope no one had descended on it - yikes! |
