We did something new for this 2016 4th of July with an overnight road trip out to Las Cruces, NM for their celebration.
Arrived early and spent the morning/early afternoon with a trip out to Old Historic Mesilla for a walking tour around the town & Plaza. After a Mexican food lunch we took the 2 mile drive out of town to Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park.
At the park, we viewed the exhibits and took a short stroll around. Way too hot to hit the main trail, but I saw enough to get a feel for the park. Not a very big park and unless I'm back in the area, not one I'll ever see again.
The highlight though was I got to see up close the Rio Grande river running strong ..... impressive !!!
We then headed back to Las Cruces to "the stadium" for the night's festivities, Jo Dee Messina and a kick :pk: fireworks show. Twas a good time in NM !!!
