| partners | | I've been wanting to investigate this area on my last couple trips to Cape Cod, but it never worked out.
We made it work this trip. At 12 miles and less that 100' of AEG, it does not appear to be a tough hike, but walking in sand 80% of the hike, gets you a pretty good work out. The sea breezes kept the temps tolerable, but at 90. it was getting warm at the end.
While probably the sandiest trail, the Marsh Trail was probably my favorite of the loop. Views of the Great Marsh, Barnstable Harbor, a variety of quaint old shacks and numerous birds, made it enjoyable. We saw deer tracks, but no deer.
I was hoping to get out to the East end of Sandy Neck, to check out the two lighthouses, but as feared, Trail #6 enters Private Property. It appears the Beach is the only way to access it, other than renting one of the houses.
We had the walk back on the beach to ourselves, until we reached the eastern end of where permitted vehicles were allowed to drive and park.
On the way out we saw a large diesel pusher RV buried to the chassis in the sand.
That's gonna cost a few bucks to tow out.
Always good hiking with my brother.
We don't get to do it enough. |
