alas, color this year was lacking... too warm days? So... we added on some exploration of the mines east of Womack... discovered a number of new shafts... need to go back to check out the entire ridge area...

With the heat still oppressing here in the Basin, we headed up the hill, hoping for cooler. We found it... and also scored pretty impressive color!

I must have never checked out San Andreas during the Fall colors... it is impressive. Alas, my camera is way off, so I did not fully capture the moments effectively... but did get something of an impression of the settings.

We added in a bit of exploration for an exit route off the top of the ridge... The Topo Maps show an odd straight line trail, labeled San Andreas trail, north of the official trail. Way too straight to be a real route... what we found was a fenceline? Likely, some long ago survey marked that boundary and labeled it. There are game trails following some of the fence... but the better routing tends to stay with the ridgeline. It was a fun descent.

With such a nice day, we also added in an additional exploratory to locate the missing Moonshine trail. We did locate the lower trailhead... hiked some of it, but it is as bad as it looked from the top... so, we turned back early.

All in all... good day out!

30# backpack... cool to cold, moist day. Legs still felt beat up from the long trail run. I may have to add in an additional rest or lighter day to fully recover from the running day. It could be that it is just that I have not been running and started the series out with that 14 mile hit?! I'll see how it goes next week, but today was pretty mediocre.
