I took the Rivas Canyon trail to the stairs that branch off to the right at the top of the ridge to the Goat Peak trail. The cobwebs in the branches along the trail were covered with dew drops and looked very pretty. It was so foggy I could only see maybe a hundred yards ahead along the trail. Finally as I got to the top of Goat Peak I could see some blue sky straight up, but still fog all around. As I kept going the fog started burning off and I could see the ridges to either side of the one I was hiking on. Very few people on the trail and it was very peaceful (other than the high school boys basketball team that managed to get to the top of Goat Peak at the same time I did, but they weren't too noisy). I took the Backbone trail to Will Rogers and then Rivas Canyon trail back to where I started. The trail went back down into the fog as it lost elevation and that cooled it down again. A very pleasant hike. |
