We headed to Los Angeles area to do some peaks and the first one was supposed to be Mount Wilson. However, due to poor research we failed to notice that the road to the trailhead was closed as well as portions of the trail to the summit. So we regrouped and came up with an alternate plan to do San Gabriel Peak and Mount Disappointment. Not exactly the same mileage or AEG but not bad for last minute.

Starting from the Red Box Picnic parking area we hiked on road for 1/4 mile to the Bill Riley Trail. Bill Riley Trail had some great oak forests on the ascent but unfortunately the gnats were also in abundance. Higher up there were less but still a nuisance.

First we hit Mount Disappointment with it's many cells towers but still great views. Short break and then on to San Gabriel Peak for the high point of the day. No cell towers on San Gabriel so we took a nice break to enjoy the view.

After the break it was back down the way we hiked up. It wasn't the Mount Wilson we wanted but it was certainly better than no hike at all!
