| no partners | | As Forest Gump’s mama always said, “Life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you’re going to get.” My day started out with an attempt to do Mount Bross from the east side, but I couldn’t get close with my Ford Edge. Backup was another trip up to either Democrat or Cameron, but the clouds were ominous, even at 8:00 a.m., so I decided on a hop just to the saddle (which I could still see). It still wasn’t raining when I got down from the saddle, so I added the out and back up to Emma Lake.
What a gem this is. It has everything: a nice 600 feet blow, an incredible meadow with a wetland filled with wild flowers, cascading waterfalls, an ending 300 feet class 3 rock scramble to reach the lake level, a beautiful lake, and fantastic views down the valley. I plan to write a description for this one in the next few days, because this trail gets lost among the usual consideration of hiking from this trailhead (which is the climbing of the peaks of Decalibron). Emma Lake is worth the 6.5-mile tortuous drive up from Alma, just by itself. |

Wildflowers Observation Substantial Lots of stuff, doubled in a few days after recent rains. |
