I was driving some back roads, in Eastern Colorado, when I stumbled on some Sand Creek Massacre signs. I had never heard of this site before, so I pulled over to researched it. The site was 26 miles out of my way, so I decided to go take a look. There is a trail, less than 3/4 of a mile, to get to the memorial. The trail then continues 1 1/4 miles onto a bluff over looking the Sand Creek area.
There isn't much to see here. This is a relatively new NPS site. They do have plans on a museum with artifacts in the near future. If your in the area, stop by and pay your respects to a dark day in US history......
