Last time i was here i was intrigued by a short stretch i did on the Three Ts trail, so i built a big loop using it as the focal point and hitting several high peaks in the Baldy area. just needs a little road walk on the end to close the circle.

battling some leg issues, i hiked the ups (of which there is a lot!) and mostly jogged the downs to move as efficiently as possible.

The icehouse canyon trail is superb and i made good time on the ascent. from the saddle i decided to out and back Bighorn Peak. it is a summit worthy of the effort and i made it there in under 2 hours, so i was happy for that. took my first break there.

headed back to the saddle, then took off on the three ts trail and bagged each of the namesake summits. the first is Timber Mountain. this has a partly wooded summit but still offers very nice views. the next summit is Telegraph and it is quite a butt kicking climb from Japanese Saddle (the low point between the two) to the summit. this was my favorite summit of the day, and i took a good break here too. the last of the three is Thunder Mountain which is at the top of a ski lift. The Three T's trail from icehouse canyon saddle to thunder mountain is spectacular in my opinion. huge open views are nonstop and it was absolutely worth the effort of the loop. right up there with devils backbone for my favorite trails in the area.

from thunder mountain i jogged down the dirt road to baldy notch, then down to manker flat. made good time. final last few miles on the paved road down to the icehouse canyon TH. very little traffic and i jogged most of this too. got some bonus cloud cover for this last part, which kept the temps manageable.

Truly excellent mountain loop in the baldy area hitting 4 high peaks. only saw a few people on the icehouse canyon trail and dirt road from baldy notch to manker. otherwise had the thing to myself.

Brian and I stopped in Claremont on our way out to Ventura with the intention of hiking a peak in the San Gabriel Mountains. There were a few options from the Icehouse Canyon trailhead, but we decided on Bighorn Peak. I absolutely loved this hike, and look forward to more hikes in the area.
